TRUE PRINCIPLES

This is the title of the Pugin Society Journal. It is named after one of Augustus Pugin's greatest works - The True Principles of Pointed or Christian Architecture (1841) - in which he outlines his architectural theories, showing firmly that it is in the Gothic style that these theories can best be exemplified.

True Principles appears once a year, in the summer. It is a well presented and attractively illustrated journal, filled with interesting articles and features on many Pugin-related subjects, by a whole range of writers. To complement it, a four-page news sheet, Present State (named after Pugin's The Present State of Ecclesiastical Architecture in England of 1843), appears in the spring, with our important Events List, a round-up of recent news, update on buildings at risk, letters, etc.
